From 4th to 11th August, the 1st Ice Speed Skating Event “Nora Vega” took place in Ushuaia.
Due to the fact that ice had started to melt, the natural Long Track could not be used. For that reason, clinics and races took place in a smaller iced lake.
With reference to the sport promotion, a group of representatives from UVEPA, led by our secretary Nora Vega, was invited to a meeting with the Governor of Tierra del Fuego. A press conference was given at his office that afternoon, where the Minister of Coordination was also present. On that occasion, it was mentioned the title given to Nora Vega as “Visitante Ilustre” (Honorable Visitor) by the Governor. We also explained to the media the reasons for our visit there.

Jorge Fazio (President), Raúl Brzezina (Chief Referee in 3 world championships FIRS), Juan Gutiérrez (who represented Argentina 14 times in world championships FIRS) and José Fazio (who participated in ISU Essen World Cup 3 times) were part of the committee.
Before the clinics, UVEPA donated second -hand skates to the skating schools of the city.
The committee went to the cities of Tolwin and Río Grande, and whey where received and welcome by the local government authorities. They could spread out all about this sports activity in a press conference.
As a sports summary, we can mention that 80 skaters took part of the event, most of them children from Ushuaia. Clinics were given and races were organized by age categories.

The event was closed with a big Argentine barbecue. Authorities, athletes and parents gathered the meal.
