José Fazio, from Mar del Plata, achieved his first medal in ice speed skating. He participated in the International Competition in the “Olympic Oval” of Calgary, Canada from 13th to 17th March in the 2007 ING Finale, the last event of the season. Our skater awarded the bronze medal after getting the third place at the end of the 100m race. More than 300 sportsmen from 20 countries took part. During the competition one World Record, 3 Junior World Record and 32 National Records were registered. José attained the third place over 100m and registered 4 national records over 100m, 500m, 1.00m and 1.500m.
Gastón Chavez (12 years old) from “Nora Vega skating school” in Ushuaia, travelled to Korea to participate in the "Dream Program 2007 in Korea". Thanks to the Korea Embassy’s invitation, UVEPA was able to send Gastón there. He spent a good time, enjoyed a lot and got experience.
He was congratulated by the Development Coordinator György Sallak for his performnce. so Gaston felt very motivated to go on training. We're sure he and some of his partners from “Nora Vega skating school” will have good future in our sport, due to their enthusiasm and abilities.
Tamara Llorens is one of the best inline skaters in our country Argentina. On january 13th, she was sent by UVEPA (Argentine Ice Speed Skater Union) to train three weeks with Jose Fazio in the Petit National Ice Center in Milwakee. UVEPA gave her the opportunity to train with Bob Fenn, the current Olympic Champion Shani Davis' coach
Tamara, a world-famous skater in Inline Skating Marathons, after training for three weeks, took part of the Pettit National Ice Center Speed Skating Trials, where she achieved excellent marks: • 2:21.36 over 1.500 meters • 4:46.82 over 3.000 meters . We attach photos of our athletes in the Pettit Center. We have great expectation in our two skaters, Tamara and José, and we believe they will be ready to participate in the next Olympic Winter Games, Vancouver 2010.
